La Festa del Giglio di Williamsburg affonda le sue radici agli inizi del Novecento, con l’arrivo di immigrati italiani, in particolare campani, nel quartiere di Williamsburg a Brooklyn.
La celebrazione nasce come atto di devozione verso Our Lady of Mount Carmel e integra il rito della Dancing of the Giglio, ispirato alla tradizione nolana, con l’aggiunta della celebre Barca.
Con oltre un secolo di storia, la festa è oggi un simbolo dell’eredità culturale italo-americana negli Stati Uniti.
The Williamsburg Giglio Feast dates back to the early 1900s, with the arrival of Italian immigrants, particularly from Campania, in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The celebration originated as an act of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and incorporates the Dancing of the Giglio, inspired by the Nola tradition, along with the iconic Boat.
With more than a century of history, the feast is now a powerful symbol of Italian-American cultural heritage in the United States.
